[Chirped quite cheerfully for someone who's probably still melting, because it's hot. Why is it still so hot?]

I've got something I need help with and perhaps there's someone here who'd be willing to help? You see I've been tracking a few different beautiful birds out in the woods for a while now and I was hoping to catch one, but I've nothing to keep it in.

[But why not let the beautiful birds stay out in the woods you may ask? Look he just wants a pretty bird as a pet.]

If there's anyone with the skills or means to build a cage I'd be very thankful.

I have! And I would love to again. Birdcages are honestly a bit simple compared to what I usually put together, but- It'd be fun.

Simple can be good though. Back home I would paint and whether it was something simple or more time consuming and extravagant, it still brought me pleasure in the end result.

[Gods he misses painting. Need to find something to fix that at a later time. Birdcage first!]

It would be nice, um... though if it wouldn't be any trouble it might be better at your cabin. It's gotten a little busy where I am.

[ He understands that better than Huaisang might realize. For him, it was nights fueled by caffeine and determination but when that he finally had a breakthrough- It was like nothing else. He misses that feeling.

Oh, that's perfectly alright. So far it's just me in my cabin and what sparse samples of biota I've managed to collect.

[ If anyone would appreciate the arts, it'd be a scientist. Nature is itself a form of art to him; also, he can sympathize with not being valued for the mind. Not his, of course, because he's absolutely brilliant and everyone knows it. ]

I'm sure we could make our paints out of what we have around us. [ Just as long as they don't use mummy brown paint it should be easy enough. ] I'll look into it.

And today is fine! I prefer the evening hours. I'm more of a night owl.

[ Wen Ning either hasn't figured out how to change his username, or hasn't really seen the need. He doesn't use his phone to comment on other people's posts very often, most of the time he just watches whatever Wei Wuxian posts, then goes to find him in person to respond.

In any case, he doesn't know Nie Huaisang very well, so he figures if they're going to be living together then they should probably get to know each other better. ]

Nie-zhongzhu, I've never built a bird cage before, but I do have steady hands, so I could probably try to help.

Admittedly Huaisang is probably still unfairly wary of Ning cause of the whole Ghost General thing, but he had helped before and he's been nothing but quiet and nice. He should try to talk to him more so this is a perfect opportunity!

But there's that pesky sect leader thing again! It throws him off for a second, but he recovers well enough.]

Ah- Wen Ning! Steady hands would be very welcome.

Someone has already offered to help... but who's to say we can't have another cage- oh! Or maybe you could help me catch the bird after?

[ Wen Ning's eyes light up. ] Oh! I've never caught a bird before, but I could probably do it if I tried. What sort of bird are you trying to catch?

[ Probably something really impressive, that Wen Ning would never think to try to put in a cage. ]

[Let's be real most people don't see all these wild birds and think "Imma put that in a cage". Huaisang is Huaisang so he does.]

Oh it's a beautiful little bird! There's so many in the woods here and so many colors and amazing calls-- here I'll send you a picture of the one I've been tracking.

[And so he does, look at the bird, Wen Ning! LOOK AT IT.]

It has so many colors on it, a beautiful red belly and the blue of it's head is so vivid and and then it's wings-! And it has such a lovely little song it sings too!

I've never seen a bird that colorful before. That would be a really nice bird to catch, I think.

It was hard to choose at first, there are a couple other lovely ones-

The bright yellow really caught my eye and of course that bright belly on the other- tsk, so many beautiful little birds.

I've never built a bird cage, but I think with enough sticks and thin reeds it could be possible.

...Ah, but how big is the bird?

I've always had mine made by the finest craftsmen in Qinghe, but I know we can't have that here. Thankfully someone already offered to help.

Oh he's just a little song bird, but so beautiful! There are so many here I've never seen before!

[Hope Yanli is excited to get sent a bunch of bird pictures. All small song birds of various colors and markings. Huaisang sends the one he's interested in catching last.]

He has the prettiest little song he sings too. I've been trying to um... re... cord? Record it? I think thats what it is called. The moving pictures with sound.

the one he's got his eyes set on is truly the most impressive of the bunch, and she's not sure she's ever seen a bird so vibrant before. ❱

Yes, I think that's right. One of those would be really beautiful as a pet. I keep thinking a bird might be nice to have around the house to brighten things up, but I mostly just see ducks.

[Yanli is doing so well with this silly little phone thing! He's pleased to hear she finds them as pretty as he does, her little 'oohs' more than enough to make that obvious.]

I can't say I've ever thought of a duck as a pet... but maybe it could work? They already seem to flock around your cabin anyway.

Jiang-xiong might not agree though, but you have to do something nice for yourself too. If that doesn't work out I'd be happy to help you find a pretty little song bird, Jiang-guniang!

A songbird would actually be very nice, if I don't simply settle on all the ducks running around.

A-Cheng is so annoyed with them. The ducks. I don't mind them, and like them...it's good to have a source of food nearby, anyway.

Ah, I'm sorry I shouldn't speak so rudely of him to you. I'm sure he has his reasons, but Jiang-guniang has the right idea! Befriend the ducks and make delicious food when needed.
