❰ the post is text, but with a video attached. it's a very simple scene, only seven seconds long. it shows off a wide-eyed wood duck in water, which is par for the course. as the lens zooms out, however (though obviously achieved by someone stepping backwards a few paces), the duck appears to be floating in the left side of a sink, surrounding counter top's wood soaked and water consistently lapping over the edge as he shifts in the water.

then he lets out a very loud...sound, and after the camera rocks a bit, a finger comes out to point at him with a scold. ❱

A-Niu. ❰ he repeats the sound, demanding, and the finger repeats a firm point. ❱ Ah! ❰ a softer bleat, suddenly submissive at the stern tone of the filmer's voice, before dunking the top half of his body into the water and causing more water to cascade down and over the counter. from there, it loops the seconds over and over again, until stopped. ❱

he is very cute but very noisy : )

❰ yanli's house is easy enough to find. it's large, right next to the lake -- there's also a ton of water foul milling about, and two brightly burning fire pits, stacked and surrounded by wood. one is larger than the other, a makeshift spit roast situated above the flame and holding a very large, very naked and dead duck. the fire is weaker than its counterpart, and there are cloth-wrapped vegetables situated in the furthest embers so they may also bake. the other fire is less impressive, but above it hangs a cauldron that is steaming and simmering with exuberance.

and between the two fires is a small woman in pristine robes, hurrying back and forth to rotate the duck, then stir her soup with a big ladle, poking at the vegetables with a stick in her other hand. thankfully there's no loud brother on the scene to bring down the ambiance of the evening.

she hasn't yet invited an outsider to their new lotus pier yet, and she'd like for things to be somewhat impressive. ❱

[ Parker ambles up at some kind of reasonable dinner time, with the promised bottle of rum in one hand (mostly full), and litre of Coke in the other. Just in case this lady wants to mix her "juice" with Coke.

She slows as she nears, unwilling to admit she's impressed with the old-timey looking setup, but broadcasting it pretty clearly anyway. ]

Shit, lookit all this. You'd think you guys never heard of a fucking stove.

❰ both forms of liquid are unfamiliar to yanli, so that will be something. upon parker speaking, yanli stands up and bows, tools still in hand. yanli makes to welcome her guest, but then looks troubled on a very deep level. ❱

I'm sorry, I'm not used to communicating through the phones. I forgot to ask about your name for a proper introduction. I'm Jiang Yanli -- just Yanli, if you're unaccustomed to our honorific system.

❰ which it doesn't look like parker would be. it's still very surreal to her, speaking to someone on the phone and then finally seeing what they look like in a totally removed context. ❱

And thank you for bringing drinks...more than just the rum?

[ Thanks, Parker isn't even sure what an "honorific system" is. But it's nice to be given just one name to use, so Yanli it is. She watches Yanli with a kind of wary bewilderment, trying to figure out what's expected of her here. ]

Uh ... yeah, no problem. [ She gestures with the rum to the Coke. ] Same drink. You put 'em together.
