8/7 late night/early morning; video; @girl.albatross
A new planet.
[ The video is dark, too close, zoomed in on someone's brown eyes. They blink. The image zooms out to a girl with dark brown hair, long, unkempt, and in her face. She's wearing a knit dress over a long-sleeved top, which hides her hands from the camera. Her eyes are both tired but startled and wide. Like she's just seen a ghost in the middle of a nightmare. She's sitting cross-legged on the bedroom floor of a cabin. ]
A new puzzle to learn.
[ She taps the lens on the smartphone with a fingertip, three times. Her face has a gentle expression of consideration, tinged with some sadness. ]
It's all going to go terribly before it gets any better, and then go terribly again.
[ The girl starts chewing on her bottom lip and turns her gaze away from the phone, frowning. There are some pointy party hats in fleshy colors on the floor, each one several feet from the others and each one is pointing on a different axis.]
She doesn't think that's very surprising to anyone by now.
The food's gone rotten like the floorboards like the card.
[ She returns her attention to the camera, picks up from her lap and flashes the card at the phone's camera before tossing it to the side. ]
The Albatross Girl has arrived unwhole and hale; her various missing pieces still unaccounted for. Why do the hats sing?
[ She sticks out her tongue; clearly that was an unpleasant experience. ]
Does she have to live alone?

Does she have to live alone?

& action all the way down;
When she sees River, she waves enough for the both of them, looking deeply excited to meet her brand new friend and roommate face to face.] Can I help you carry anything?

A small piece of a life in motion, pinwheeling through the stars and their conjoined powers.

[The jacket is slung over one shoulder, dinosaurs under her arm, and boots held in one hand. That gives her a free arm to half-hug River in greeting.] I'm so glad you're here. It does get a little lonely, in these cabins by yourself. I'm very happy to have a roommate!

Well. There are, on second thoughts, a lot of things that could happen to a tree. Fire. Flood. Infestation. Rot.
She shudders and pulls away from the hug. ]
Hopefully it won't be a disaster in the quiet places.

Fran sets the boots, jacket, and dinosaurs down on the table and spreads her arms wide, doing a little spin to show off the dining area-slash-living room space.]
This is my home! And now it's yours, too.

[ That's why. But River has no qualms with Fran leading the way, already settling herself into the idea of forging some kind of pattern between herself and the other girl. The sense River gets from her is that she's had a strange and unique sort of life, which is perfect, really.
How many people can say they've been a tree? Other than Fran, that is.
Fran spins in the middle of the room and River laughs, clapping her hands together before enveloping the other girl in a hug. To see so many different horrors skirting at the edge of knowledge makes them similar, she knows this. Drugs and doctors and demons crafting man-made revenge. ]
Sorry, [ she whispers into the other girl's hair, ] for all that's lost.

But then there's the whispered apology and Fran is moved to tears, clinging tighter to River.]
I'm not sure, in all my adventures, that anyone's said that to me. Thank you.

[ River kisses her cheek and gives another squeeze before letting go and turning in a wide circle, arms outstretched and standing on the balls of her feet with her face pointed to the ceiling. It's warmer than her cabin had been and has all the echoes of someone having lived in it. If she's going to be planetside, at least she's not alone. ]

Fran perches on the sofa with a soft, warm smile. Watching River take in her new home. It's enchanting, really.]
Everything here is yours, of course. Right now we just have canned food and things, but I bet we could make something of it.

[ River shuts her eyes and bursts into dance. Releve, plie, saute, rising, bending, jumping. Another two spins in place, until she stops, laughing. ]
Useless at the domestic care and feeding of the self and others. [ A shrug. ]

I love watching you dance. It's perfectly lovely. You move the same way you talk.
