[ that’s cool. hours after being revived through what will only be referred to as space magic, shiro here has been abducted and unloaded for some good ol’ torture an’ death. hold up, let him get out his tally sheet:
abductions: III
fodder for ptsd: ∞
maiming: III
deaths: I
rookie numbers but chances for boosting those tallies are lookin’ good!
speaking of lookin’ good: the video feed opens to shiro’s face. a bit disheveled, a touch exhausted, a whole lot perturbed, he keeps it together for roughly two seconds before he breaks on a sigh. okay, maybe he wasn’t as ready to make an announcement as he’d originally thought. ]
I guess it was too much to hope that this time Earth’s welcome would be better than my last return.
[ dry, very dry, the humor helps dispel his spiking annoyance. ]
Points for originality. [ been there, done that comes to mind, nonetheless. just another dire circumstance to add to the pile. ]
Right. I’m Takashi Shirogane. I’m a new arrival.
[ features setting to an expression more neutral, it’s easy to fall into the more reliable routine of diplomacy. authoritative, matter-of-fact, he sums it all up rather quickly with: ]
I have the pamphlet. The archive. The general gist of what is… happening. [ supposedly happening - but he won’t voice that. it seems far-fetched… though, being abducted by purple aliens waging a ten-thousand year long intergalactic war to take over the universe would have sounded like a b sci-fi movie a couple years ago. so.
clears his throat, refocuses and-- there’s the slightest tell in the waver in his voice and the half-curl of his mouth, the wisp of a smile self-deprecating. ]
Anyway. I’m what you’d call… a little rough right now. [ and he angles the phone, the angle showing more of himself, namely the hub at his right shoulder. ] But even if I don’t have two working hands, I’d like to lend one, in any way to help.

video | @lan.wangji
Takashi Shirogane. I am Lan Wangji. ( well met, and all that. ) Is your golden core intact?
no subject
golden what now? congratulations wanger, you’ve unlocked an achievement: threw shiro off his game in less than 10 seconds.
squints, confusion furrowing his brow. ]
I’m sorry, my what?
no subject
Do you seek appeasement?
no subject
because is he a joke to you, wangly?? cultivator? does he actually look like a farmer of some sort? ]No harm done. [ being mistaken as a
soil turnercultivator is the least horrible thing to happen lately. ]And, uh, no. I’m fine. Think I’d need something more extensive to set me right, anyway.
[ unless wangy’s got some space magic or a spare bionic arm hidden under those robes. ah well. with all the snow about, surely someone’s made a snowman. maybe he’ll steal its stick arm and fashion it as his own. ]
OKAY BACK TO VIDEO LMAO
lucky for you though, he does have some kind of magic. nothing space-related, and he can’t grow missing limbs, but. the scars seem to run deep in this one, and he can help that. )
For your arm, seek Cas. ( you see, there’s a thing called weed that he uses for his back. ) For your mind, music. ( namely his own. )
ROFL I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE FKKK
now back to the matter at hand - h e h. ]
Music and Cas? [ ALRIGHT. he’ll bite. ] I-- guess some soothing music would help. [ not. he's trying to be diplomatic. but. the kind of demons that are in this pretty head. you don’t know the horrors, wangly. ]
But this Cas-- [ priorities ] Do you know where I can find him? [ say no to drugs kids - fuck, we all know boy scout shiro was probably spearheading his universe’s equivalent of d.a.r.e. ]
no subject
head inclined in agreement (and encouragement), he guesses the properties of his melodies are probably completely lost on shiro here, but it doesn’t deter him. ) The Gusulan repertoire is vast. I can play for you, if you wish. ( and blow your mind. just how many people is he going to play for? might as well perform for the mass.
and now, priorities indeed. ) As for Cas, you will find him in the twelfth cabin.
no subject
gusulan repertoire-- that’s number three on the list of things sailing over his head in this conversation. but shiro ain’t no rude boy; he’s been raised right. so there’s a gracious smile, albeit slightly dampened by that ever present confusion.
BUT FIRST. ]
Twelfth. Okay. Thank you. [ cas is now considered old news. MOVING ON. ] And yes. If it’s no trouble… I’d like to hear you play. [ smile stronger now, confidence growing in tandem with his interest. ] What instrument do you play?
no subject
lan wangji's nod is barely perceptible, though shiro's gratitude is acknowledged nonetheless. ) Mn. Time and place, at your discretion. ( a beat, and then: ) I play the guqin. ( and look, he's actually learned how to use this thing so, here's a picture! )
no subject
except, wangily isn’t an alien.
so yeah. shiro kind of feels like an idiot. cool. luckily! -- a picture is attached. so it’s-- what? some sort of lap guitar?
he’s. not. musically. inclined. forgive him. ] I can’t say I’ve ever seen, let alone heard a-- guqin before. [ good-natured smile--per usual. ] It’s pretty though. [ is that a thing? do people compliment the look of an instrument? ] How long have you been playing it?
no subject
This one I received in early childhood. ( so he’s been playing for… a few decades, actually. almost three. it’S what farmers do, in his family. but speaking of time... there’s a brief pause, and lan wangji’s brows furrow in curiosity. ) You have been abducted before. ( it’s more of a statement than a question, because he did speak of “his last return”, and lan wangji has to wonder what it entails. )
since you say i write too much LET'S SEE ME TRY TO DO SHORTER THINGS LOL
but back to the guqin. shiro nods and makes soft, barely there sounds of acknowledgement. likely to ask more ( polite ) questions, shiro doesn’t quite get the chance. instead, the topic abruptly changes and-- okay, that’s… okay. they’re going there, apparently. ( shiro’s fault, really. he might have been vague but it's not a stretch to put two an' two together. ) ] A few times, actually. [ kind of. the few hours by garrison personnel seems like nothing compared to the shitshow on kerberos. ]
video; @astromech
FINALLY, someone at least partly mechanical who looks somewhat mechanical! (Sorry, R.O.S.I.E., but your fleshy human appearance unsettles her to no end. ]
You need a new arm. Find me enough metal, I can build you a new arm.
no subject
… but fk it, sign him up as a robot’s pet project. ]
I-- really? [ color him surprised! maybe this place isn’t so bad???? ] Thank you. That’s generous of you.
no subject
I'm probably you're only hope around here, anyway. I'm not sure any of the other bozos here have any experience making arms, whereas I've made several already.
no subject
he should probably ask some questions first, huh. see, not to look a gift horse in the mouth but, uh. ]
Of these arms you’ve made… have you been the one to attach them too? [ expression carefully neutral, gaze assessing, tho droids are kind of impossible to gauge. ] Or more specifically, to a human already equipped with a partial, barely functioning fragment of alien technology?
no subject
For a short answer, no. I've never attached an arm to a human before. But how hard could it be? You've already got the socket primed. Just need something that will fit with that and interface with its programming.
Whose tech is it? If that's not a sensitive question.
[ She doesn't actually care whether or not that's a sensitive question. ]
no subject
shit.
this sounds less like pet project and closer to experimentation. droid. druid. fk. as long as she doesn’t have to strap him down to an operating table and mess with his arm, then-- he should be okay. ]
It was made by druids serving the Galran empire. [ technically, this body was made by haggar and her druids too. relevant information? probably not. ] For the most part, the arm functioned well. But, it became-- unstable recently and Keith-- part of my team had to cut it off before it could cause further damage.
[ aka kill keith. so excuse him while he worries like a dumb human. ] What if the remaining tech is still compromised?
no subject
Alright, sounds like that's our priority, before we even think about building a new arm. We need to run a full diagnostic on what's left of this-- Galran? Don't know who they are-- this Galran tech, and make sure you're not accidentally going to become a threat to anyone once you're two handed again.
no subject
Yeah, that’s-- yeah. Smart. I’d rather be without an arm than hurt any of you. [ in fact, if the remains are compromised, he might not be opposed to the idea of taking his chances and having it ripped out. hopefully she’s as good at dismantling an arm as she is at making one.
but. that’s something to ask if they get to that point. for now: ] Do you need me to get anything for it? Supplies? Or do you have everything you need to run it?
no subject
[ Hopefully. Not knowing the people who made the tech means there's a possibility her sensors will be completely incompatible. But she's confident she can make it work. ]
Where can I find you?
[ Maybe he puts a bit of emphasis on 'a hand'. Maybe. ]
What skills do you have?
no subject
Hey… thanks? [ not exactly liking the prison bit, but. can’t do much besides bear it at the moment. ]
Used to be pretty good at hand-to-hand combat. Now it’s just hand-to combat. [ crooked smile-- there really is no end to the ( dumb ) jokes about his predicament. ] I was trained at Galaxy Garrison. A-- uh, military compound. I can pilot, provide basic field medicine… I’m decent enough at mechanic work.
[ also, he led the offense against an alien empire. but… getting excessive. ]
no subject
Do you know anything about cars and trucks?
@Jiang.Wanyin
farmercultivator, this one not quite as helpful maybe. Has a good scowl, though. ]My name is Jiang Wanyin. The general gist is that you have been captured, imprisoned and will be repeatedly ritually murdered.
no subject
the scowl though-- huh, wow, okay. guess there won’t be any offers of instrumental music with this one. for his part, shiro’s smile is a faint thing, one soon replaced with a far more neutral expression. ]
Captured, imprisoned, and murdered… [ GREAT TO MAKE YOUR ACQUAINTANCE JIANG WANYIN. buzzkill. ] Right. [ and what does shiro do best when faced with his impending doom? joke about it of course. ] Since I’ve already done all of that, do you think for this first go around they’ll take it easier on me? Or harder?
no subject
And, oh yes, more scowling. ]
Do you think it's a joke? It isn't. If you don't take the dangers of this place seriously you will only be more vulnerable to it. [ A scoff. ] But if you don't believe me, you are welcome to learn the hard way.
@shrike
[ Renfri flashes him a crooked grin. ]
But you look like you could use some help before you offer any. Do you need a doctor? Not that I am one, but we could probably drum someone up here who knows more than my field skills.
no subject
You don’t need to worry about me. The arm is stable. [ no blood. no pain. no threat to his life. not from this, anyway. ] There’s someone who’s offered to make me a new arm, actually.
no subject
Make you a new arm? Are we talking a magic new flesh arm here or a metal arm? It would be useful either way, as long as you are sure you can trust that magic arm.
