Jan 16th - Video - un: monkey
[Now that everyone is awake and not shared dreaming. Have a talking gorilla on the network!]
Uh, hello there. To hopefully get a few things out of the way, yes I can talk, no you're not imagining it. How can I talk? It's complicated.
My name is Winston, nice to um, meet you all?
[He winces with an awkward smile.]
So I've been having a look at the network set up here through the device provided and it's interesting to say the least. A few of my major questions have been answered looking back at things, but gotta ask just in case. Are these Technicians available for a chat or is this on a "them" basis?

video; un: lan.sizhui
he clears his throat to cover a laugh, grinning with enthusiasm afterward.] ‘It's complicated’ seems like an appropriate answer for this place.
Welcome, Winston, to... wherever here is? I'm not sure we've figured out a name yet— but it's nice to meet you, too!
[moving on to more important things at hand, though.] As for the Technicians, it seems more like an ‘on their terms’ business, but they've been known to listen from time to time.
Re: video; un: lan.sizhui
[Winston observes the username that this young man has and he's taking a wild guess he's Chinese by the name. Look he's grown up around a lot of different languages and people. He'll clear his throat.]
I don't want to be rude, but is it Sizhui? Or do you prefer Lan Sizhui? Or am I way off base and that's something the Technicians gave you cause uh, yeah. We won't get into my username at the moment.
[Monkey. R U D E.]
no subject
[he isn't surprised whatsoever, like, of course the talking primate can also distinguish his ethnicity from reading his network username.]
You're not being rude at all, Winston, I assure you. [nothing wrong with asking what title he prefers to go by! or not in his opinion, at least.] Yes, they do seem to give people inappropriate names on this quite often. [poor ning with his still being bullied.by.children situation and all...]
Just ‘Sizhui’ is fine, however, there's no need for the extra formalities. Oh! And for what it's worth, you can eventually change the name.
no subject
Oh thank god. I mean, in the scheme of things a username isn't that important, but since there's the option...
Sizhui it is then.
[Though now that he's really having a look at Sizhui he looks. Young. Not a baby, obviously, but barely a man. Are the Technicians really so low to bring children here?]
I've spoken with a few others wearing similar dress to yours, do you happen to be from the same place?
no subject
Something less... rude is in order, I'd agree.
[in response to the name decision, his head nods affirmingly, an exuberant grin overtaking his features after winston inquires about the others from his homeworld. (also, yes, it seems the technicians do not care how young or old anyone is.)]
I am, you are correct. [he absentmindedly adjusts his robe sleeves, still bright-eyed, though his expression has softened somewhat.] There are quite a few of us from ancient China, it seems.
no subject
I'll figure it out later, it's not imperative right this second.
[He's gotta say, Sizhui sure seems to have a good head on his shoulders considering the circumstances. Nice kid.]
Well that explains a lot. A uh gentleman in purple explained technology like this device and electronics in general aren't normal for you. Understandable now.
Though you seem to have gotten the hang of it just fine.
[Winston smiles in turn.]
no subject
Certainly not! It is only a network name, after all. [nothing that can't be changed at a later date when winston isn't trying to get answers about other stuff. ‘gentleman in purple’ explains quite a lot; there aren't many fellows bopping around in that color either, so it's safe to assume he's referring to jiang cheng.]
Mm, [sizhui hums affirmingly,] I know which man you mean and he's correct. We have nothing like this whatsoever back in our homeworld.
With a little dedication and some practice, I figured it out, though. [having the smarts he does likely helps a bit too, but sizhui's not one to toot his own horn.]
no subject
[Er, that's a compliment even if it sounds a little strange.]
Gotta say. Not really used to this kinda housing myself and not just because it's not "me" sized.
no subject
The cabins, you mean? Oh, I do suppose... they might be a bit on the small size in your case, it's true, but what else are you not used to?
no subject
Not to sound ah, ungrateful, but nothing like this. State of the art facilities and the like. Nothing as er "homey" as this cabin that's for sure. Not that it's bad, but I guess for me home isn't what most people would consider. Home.
[Take a shot every time Winston says home.]
Cold metal and concrete walls surrounded by computers and my equipment to fiddle with whatever gadget I'm trying to make next.
[And empty peanut butter containers.]
no subject
and if they were taking shots every time that happened, someone could get alcohol poisoning.]
You don't sound ungrateful, Winston. If you don't find the cabins comfortable, there might be other places that offer better amenities for you? [not the apartments since they don't have any of what he's talking about, either. however, following a thoughtful hum,]
What about the hospital? Or maybe one of the warehouses in town?
no subject
Warehouses you say? Hmm... hospital too, I'll definitely have to check both out. I appreciate the suggestions, Sizhui, both sound like ample options.
no subject
Mmhmm! You're welcome and I hope that you're able to find something that works for you. If not, perhaps the Technicians could be convinced to accommodate you somehow?
no subject
I think you may have solved my problem already, I'll definitely let you know if your suggestion was a hit or not. I get the feeling the Technicians don't really care if I'm comfortable here or not. Just a hunch.
no subject
Glad to be of assistance! Yes, do let me know, that way maybe we can figure out something else for you since you're right about them probably not caring. [other people do though, so.]
