Uh, hello there. To hopefully get a few things out of the way, yes I can talk, no you're not imagining it. How can I talk? It's complicated.

My name is Winston, nice to um, meet you all?

[He winces with an awkward smile.]

So I've been having a look at the network set up here through the device provided and it's interesting to say the least. A few of my major questions have been answered looking back at things, but gotta ask just in case. Are these Technicians available for a chat or is this on a "them" basis?

I'm what you'd call a special case. My more wild cousins can't talk like humans, but there are some who've been taught a modified sign language.

[Deaf? Mute? Winston's got you covered! He can sign!]

So is there anything else I should know about these Technicians? There's not much of them I've found on the network and the uh, welcome "guide" was pretty sparse too.

I'm sure there is a lot to know but I haven't been here for long yet, and I'm only just starting to find my bearings. I can't make much sense of this place yet.

Most people seem to live in houses near the lake, and they have been here long enough to get used to this place. There are stores in town, most of them are abandoned and can only be ransacked for what hasn't been ruined or looted yet but the food store is getting mysteriously restocked.

I appreciate any information, thank you. It's unfortunate anyone has been here long enough to get used to it.

Hmm... that does sound strange. Has anyone ever set up a watch to see if they can catch who's restocking things?

That... is a very good question. I didn't think to ask. I assume they would have, but they don't seem all that organized. [ She gives a laugh. ] Or at all organized, really. I have my boys on a shorter leash than anyone here does, from what I've seen. [ And they are outlaws, not that she's been advertising her profession around here. ]

We could set up a watch.

Being torn away from your home is pretty traumatic, I won't hold disorganization against anyone here.

Though it wouldn't hurt if we did get stuff organized, but I've only just arrived. Can't say I understand this place better than those who've been here longer.

But I'd be willing to be a part of that watch.

I don't like waiting around for other people to get themselves sorted out, and I'm not one for falling in line with higher authorities anyway. I don't have much use for following orders like a good little soldier.

[ Thus, giving the order seems the better choice for her. ]

We can ask around but if nobody else has tried it yet, let's give the watch a shot ourselves. If we could take one of them hostage, it would give us leverage.

[ If she understood technology better, mind you, she would realize that it's a bad idea to discuss this on the network where anyone might listen in. ]

[He understands, kind of. There's a need for order, but sometimes order doesn't help enough and people hand to go outside that to get the job done. He's in such a situation back home.]

Perhaps a meeting in person would be wise, to uh, discuss this in more detail.

[Winston is having a lightbulb moment that maybe discussing this over the network isn't the smartest.]

[ He's a lot smarter about technology than Renfri is, but she would have wanted to meet up in person sometime soon anyway so... ]

You have only just arrived, right? I can meet you by whatever landmark is closest to you.

I've actually been getting acquainted with the cabins and the nearby woods. Perhaps the frozen lake would be easiest? Unless there's some where in the middle we should meet?

I'm sure I could find my way.

I can come to the lake, that's no problem for me. I'm in the village right now but I know the way well enough.

[ Yes, she has been poking around though she kept to herself. ]

I haven't got anything better to do, I can join you there.

Then I'll see you there in... would an hour be good?

[He doesn't know how far away the town is, he's just spitballing.]

Sounds good, I can easily be there in an hour. Is there anything I should bring? Do you need food or medical attention?

[ Something she should have probably asked first but better late than never, right? ]

Oh I'm alright. Thank you for asking.

I'll see you soon- oh, I do t think I got your name?

Renfri. I'm Renfri.

[ And then the video call cuts off, while she gets ready to leave for the lake. It's not often you get to have a planning session with a talking gorilla, you wouldn't want to be late for that. ]

[Renfri. Got it.

Winston works on finishing up the rest of his on going conversations here before heading out himself. The lake is an easy landmark and as he's big he's pretty easy to spot too.

He'll be cautiously testing the ice with a hand when Renfri arrives.]

[ She joins him a while later, huddled in a thick cloak and a scarf, though she wears no gloves - it would hinder her in using her blades even more so than icy fingers, and that just won't do. She does, however, have her hands shoved into the pockets of her coat right now.

At the edge of the lake, she comes to a stop, just staring at a creature she has only known from drawings. ]

You're a lot larger than I expected.

[moonape]

[Winston sees her coming and offers a friendly wave. Once she's closer and acknowledges him he'll chuckle,pushing his glasses up.]

You know, I get that a lot.

[thelesserevil]

[ Her lips twitch into an easy grin. ]

I would think so, big guy. [ She eyes him sideways, still a little befuddled by the whole talking monkey thing, but hey, he is not actually that much stranger than other creatures, right? There are many non-humans people talk about as if they are just animals when they aren't. ] You're not actually the strangest creature I have run into. But you're the first one I have seen as tall and brawny as you who wears glasses.

[moonape]

[Maybe where she's from, things that aren't human that talk is pretty weird on Earth. Then again humans have always been hit or miss with anyone "different".]

Well, about that. Without them the world is a little more out of focus, my one weakness. Besides peanut butter.

[Not because he's allergic mind you. Maybe a little addicted though.]

[ Okay, she is just going to...

Nah, she hasn't really got anything. ]

Peanut butter? [ Renfri echoes blankly. No, she doesn't know what that is, though she can gather it must be some sort of food. Nut butter, it does say. It just doesn't explain... ] Why?
